Chief Executive Officer & Director
Christian Milau has been the CEO of Equinox Gold since August 2016, leading the team through two mergers and an asset acquisition and growing the company from a single-asset developer to a multi-asset producer in just two years. Prior to joining Equinox Gold, Christian was the CEO of True Gold until it was acquired by Endeavour Mining for approximately $240 million in April 2016. Prior to True Gold, Christian held senior positions at Endeavour Mining, New Gold, BNP Paribas in London, and Deloitte. Christian brings more than 20 years of experience to the company with expertise in finance and capital markets as well as operational, government and stakeholder relations experience. He is currently a director of Northern Dynasty and Plateau Energy Metals.
Greg Smith has been President of Equinox Gold since March 2017, when JDL Gold merged with Luna Gold and Greg transitioned from his role as CEO of JDL Gold. Prior to his role with JDL Gold, he held the roles of CEO and founder of Anthem United, President and CEO of Esperanza Resources prior to its sale to Alamos Gold, and CFO of Minefinders Corporation prior to its sale to Pan American Silver. Previously Greg has held management positions at both Goldcorp and the mining division of KPMG LLP, and he also acted as a director of Premier Royalty prior to its sale to Sandstorm Gold. Currently Greg is a director and the Audit Committee Chair of both Chesapeake Gold and Royalty North Partners. Greg is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant.
Chief Operating Officer
James (Jim) Currie starting working for Equinox Gold in May 2018 as a consultant, leading Aurizona development, and joined the Company as COO in November 2018. Jim has held the role of COO for a number of multi-operational companies, most recently as COO of Pretivm Resources where he led development of the Brucejack gold asset. Previously he was COO of New Gold, working on the Mesquite Gold Mine and also leading the construction and development of New Gold’s New Afton gold mine, which went into production in 2012. Over the course of his 40-year career in the mining industry he has been a director on various boards and held senior management, engineering and operation roles for a number of mines and projects. Jim holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with honours in mining engineering from Queen’s University and is a registered professional engineer. He was the 2014 co-winner of AME BC’s prestigious EA Scholtz Award for Excellence in Mine Development for his work on New Afton.
Chief Financial Officer
Peter Hardie has been the CFO of Equinox Gold since August 2016. Before joining Equinox Gold, Peter was the CFO of True Gold until it was acquired by Endeavour Mining in April 2016. Peter is a Chartered Professional Accountant with 17 years of finance, accounting, business development, government negotiation, construction and operations experience. Before his time at True Gold, Peter spent 10 years at Nevsun Resources Ltd., where he progressed through various management positions and spent several years as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. He was involved in financing, construction and mine start-up, operations, government negotiations, and led all areas of finance, including treasury systems and reporting.
Susan Toews previously worked at New Gold Inc. for almost 10 years as Vice President Legal Affairs, Corporate Secretary and as a consultant providing project support. Before her years at New Gold, Susan was Corporate Secretary for Peak Gold Ltd., which merged with New Gold in 2008, and was General Counsel for EGX Canada Inc., an emerging stock exchange for real estate related securities. Susan spent six years at the British Columbia Securities Commission as Senior Legal Counsel where she was involved in developing local and national rules with a focus on corporate governance practices and disclosure. Susan has over 20 years of legal and business experience in a combination of in-house, regulatory and private practice roles as well as knowledge of mining in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and Chile. As General Counsel for Equinox Gold, she is responsible for day-to-day legal advice and providing legal support for all areas, including commercial negotiations, dispute resolution and legal and regulatory compliance. She has been a member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1994 and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Bachelor of Laws.
Scott Heffernan has been the Executive VP Exploration of Equinox Gold since August 2016. Before joining Equinox Gold, Scott was the VP Exploration of True Gold until it was acquired by Endeavour Mining in April 2016. Scott is a registered professional geologist with 20 years of hands-on exploration and management experience throughout the Americas and Africa. Prior to joining True Gold, he held the dual positions of VP Exploration for Wealth Minerals Ltd., and Exploration Manager (Argentina) of Cardero Resource Corporation. Previous to that he was with Equity Exploration Ltd., a Vancouver-based consulting and contracting firm specializing in turn-key geological project management. Scott received his B.Sc. (Geology) from the University of Alberta and completed his M.Sc. (Geological Sciences) with the Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) at the University of British Columbia.
Senior VP Finance
Sebastian D’Amici has been the Senior VP Finance of Equinox Gold since August 2016. Before joining Equinox Gold, Sebastian was VP Finance of True Gold until it was acquired by Endeavour Mining in April 2016. Sebastian is a Chartered Professional Accountant with 13 years of finance, investment banking, accounting and business development experience. Prior to joining True Gold, he held senior finance and accounting roles with CHC Helicopters, Clarus Securities and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Sebastian received his B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia.
VP Investor Relations
Rhylin Bailie has been the VP Investor Relations of Equinox Gold since October 2016. From July 2011 to October 2016, Rhylin managed all aspects of investor relations for a number of resource companies including Southern Arc Minerals, Eagle Hill Exploration and Sandspring Resources. Previously Rhylin was Director of Investor Relations for NovaGold Resources from 2006 to 2011, and prior to that held various positions in the Treasury group at Placer Dome from 1995 to 2006. Rhylin is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree. She is a director on the National Board of the Canadian Investor Relations Institute.
VP Business Development
Kylie Dickson was the VP Business Development of Trek Mining until it merged to form Equinox Gold in December 2017, and was the Chief Financial Officer of JDL Gold until it merged with Luna Gold in March 2017 to form Trek Mining. Prior to her role with JDL she was a founding shareholder and CFO of Anthem United, and was the CFO of Esperanza Resources prior to its sale to Alamos Gold in 2013. Kylie was previously the Corporate Controller of Minefinders Corporation from 2007 until 2012, and prior to that was an Audit Manager with the mining group at KPMG LLP. Kylie is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Simon Fraser University. She is currently a director for Fortuna Silver Mines and in 2018 was a recipient of the Business in Vancouver Top 40 under 40 award.
Kevin Scott is a metallurgical engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the resource industry. Kevin was the VP Technical Services of Trek Mining until it merged to form Equinox Gold in December 2017, and prior to that was most recently Director, Minerals and Metals at Ausenco, and has held a variety of roles in engineering, consulting, project development and operations. Kevin has extensive study management and project experience in engineering, having worked in senior roles for Ausenco, AMEC, SNC-Lavalin and Bechtel. He has a wealth of metallurgical knowledge and project evaluation expertise, particularly from his technical consulting roles including over five years at Roscoe Postle Associates (RPA). He is a Qualified Person and has co-authored more than 12 NI 43-101 Technical Reports. Additionally, he was Senior Process Manager of the Canico Resource team that developed the Onça-Puma nickel laterite project in Para State, Brazil prior to being acquired by CVRD. He has a B.A.Sc. in Metal & Materials Engineering and is a registered professional engineer in BC and Ontario.
VP Operations, Aurizona
Cesar Torresini has been overseeing development of the Aurizona project since January 2017. Cesar is a geologist with an MBA in Project Management. During his career he has worked on all aspects of project development, from exploration through construction and operations and has developed very strong regulatory and community relations skills. Cesar has overseen large exploration programs for a number of companies and was Newmont’s Brazil Country Manager for three years. He started as Project Manager for the Amapari Gold project in 2003 and was Mine General Manager from 2005 to 2011 under the ownership of Goldcorp and New Gold. From Amapari he moved on to manage the El Gigante Gold exploration project in Columbia for five years, until leaving to work as a consultant again. Cesar lives in Northern Brazil. In November 2018, Cesar won the "Mining Person of the Year, Precious Metals" award from Brasil Mineral Magazine for his contributions to the Brazilian Mining Industry.
VP HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY
Dennis Wilson was the Director of Environment and Social Responsibility with New Gold until joining Equinox Gold in February 2019. Dennis has managed both the environmental and community relations programs at mine sites in Australia (Peak Gold Mine) and Canada (New Afton Mine), and has experience at mine sites from construction through to closure. From 2013 to 2019 he managed the environmental and social responsibility programs for New Gold’s mines in Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United States. Dennis has a B.App Sc (Environmental Science) and an Associate Diploma in Chemical Technology.
